Stock Damage Prevention

Invest in your business/store security, consider installing surveillance cameras in your stores. Doing so will allow you to monitor store activities 24-7, and it’ll give you recordings that you can revisit if necessary.

Threat

Every weekend we deal with car paint scratches and smashed side mirrors or windows. We don’t want to erect a high fence around the yard as we want potential customers to browse after hours. But if we don’t think of something soon we’ll be forced to turn this place into a fortress.

Solution

Leaving a trail of destruction as they go, the noisy group enter the car yard with a plan to break and scratch whatever they can find. Upon setting foot in the car yard the outdoor detector triggers an alarm to ROM and the Operator issues a voice challenge to the offenders. Not knowing how they’ve been discovered, but knowing they’ve been caught on camera the group sprint down the road to easier targets. There was no time to cause damage and it’s business as usual the following morning.

PRIORITIZE YOUR CAMERAS

Most facilities do not have a surveillance system that covers every inch of the facility. There are many common reasons for this, including unique and challenging store lay out, physical obstructions, and budgetary issues. Take a close and critical look at the business layout and processes and prioritize what needs to be covered, then implement the security camera coverage accordingly.

POSITION YOUR CAMERAS WISELY

Often, a business owner will have an idea of the area that needs to be covered, but fails to consider the conditions under which it would be recording as well as the capabilities of the camera. Video surveillance camera placement is not just about the optimal angle, it is also about optimally using the camera’s features and capabilities within the given environment.

CONSIDER A CCTV SYSTEM UPGRADE

If you have had your CCTV system a while, consider investigating what options are available today. As security technology advances quickly, upgrading can have significant value to the business in many ways, in addition to loss prevention. The cost of upgrades is minimal compared to the added value.

RETAIL LOSS PREVENTION:  WAYS TO MAXIMIZE CCTV SYSTEMS

Use Security Footage

Installing security cameras throughout your store will enable you to have recorded footage and evidence of thieves in the act. ROM suggests that security cameras will more easily deter shoplifters, keep your employees honest and improve the overall efficiency within your business. Surveillance Experts also suggest that the use of surveillance can greatly improve your chances of convicting an employee or shoplifter for theft.

Placement

Often you will get the most use of CCTV footage by placing the cameras at points in your store that can closely see down each isle, exits and check outs. It is a good idea to install security cameras in discreet and unnoticeable locations so as to not encourage thieves to use blind spots or places where cameras are prohibited due to privacy. Additionally, make use of pivotal devices that allow your cameras to be adjusted manually and zoomed in real-time by a CCTV specialist.
